Simple Makeup for a Natural Look
Feeling good in your skin is important. Part of self-love is loving the body you’re in and all the beauty and flaws that come with it. When we’re out of sync with ourselves and start feeling unattractive, it’s an important to find ways to get your pretty back. Pretty isn’t about looking good for someone else; it’s about feeling like an extra sparkly you.
I try to make an effort each day to put on a touch of makeup. Some days it’s only a swipe of mascara and filling in my eyebrows, but even those small touches make a world of difference in my confidence. As I’m adapting to my new lifestyle, especially working from home, I’m making an effort to enjoy the process of putting on makeup in the morning. Even if I don’t have meetings or a place to go, I’m acting as if I do, which puts me in a great mindset for the day.
The makeup I wear on a daily basis is easy to apply and takes less than five minutes. Depending on the day, I will either use It Cosmetics’ CC Cream or Bare Minerals original powder foundation. I have very fair skin so I use the CC cream is the light shade and the Bare Minerals is the lightest shade available. I usually wear the CC cream on days I know I’ll be outside for awhile (like when I’m walking dogs) because it has SPF 50.
I was inspired to repurchase the Bare Minerals’ foundation after several years hiatus when I found out that Julia from Gal Meets Glam loves the product. I love that the mineral powder gives me fuller coverage, but my skin still looks like skin. After working with a great makeup artist at Sephora, I bought the It Cosmetics’ primer because of her recommendation. It’s not the best primer I've ever used (that honor goes to Hourglass’s primer), but it does a good job of keeping on my mineral foundation. I’ve tried using it under my CC cream before, but it just slides right off and doesn’t increase the staying power.
To apply the mineral powder, I use this André Lorent brush that I got as a lightning deal off Amazon several months ago and I love it! The bristles don’t shed and are really dense. It’s great for building up coverage.
I received this little Tarte Cosmetics blush with my birthday gift from Sephora. I love the color because it looks so natural and doesn’t have fake shimmer. The perfect English rose color, if you will.
I finish off my look with NYX’s tinted eyebrow mascara and Maybelline’s Lash Sensational mascara (another Gal Meets Glam fave!). I’ve had this eyebrow mascara for ages now and love the feathery look it gives my brows. Much more natural than filling them in with eyeshadow like I did in past!
Other than maybe a bit of chapstick or Vaseline, that’s my simple makeup look. I highly recommend the André Lorent kabuki brush and NYX’s eyebrow mascara if you’re in the market for new products!
